Countywide : Use Caution, CHP Tells Holiday Drivers
The California Highway Patrol reminded motorists this week to exercise extra caution during Memorial Day weekend, which marks the beginning of the summer driving season.
Last year, 39 traffic-related fatalities occurred in Orange County over the holiday weekend, officials said.
“The CHP wants this to be the start of a great summer,” said Capt. Don Henderson, commander of the agency’s Westminster area office. “And the best way to assure this is to wear your seat belts and don’t drink and drive.”
Henderson said 80% of the CHP’s officers will be out in the field this weekend, starting at 6 p.m. today and ending at midnight Monday, and will be setting up sobriety checkpoints.
