MOORPARK : Reunion to Mark District’s 100th Year
More than 150 people are expected to attend the Moorpark High School reunion for those who graduated before 1945 at the Thousand Oaks Inn this evening.
The reunion also marks the Moorpark school district’s 100th anniversary, said 1938 graduate Florence Dawson, 75, who helped organize the event, billed as the “Last Reunion of the Century.”
The first school in the district was opened in 1895 on Peach Hill. That one-room schoolhouse was demolished years ago and all that remains at the site are overgrown weeds.
Alumni are encouraged to bring their old yearbooks, which will be used to complete a set of yearbooks at the high school and at the local historical society, Dawson said.
Along with dancing and dinner, the ceremonies will include awards for the oldest graduate--Jean McLachlin, 89, who was one of eight students in the Class of 1924.
The special guest will be Arch Higman, who coached the school’s sports teams in the 1930s.
