FULLERTON : City OKs Disputed Parking Lot at Retirement Community

Share

Despite opposition from a few residents, the City Council has approved the construction of a 73-space employee parking lot on the south side of the Morningside retirement community.

“It’s just a lousy place for a parking lot,” said Morningside resident James Greene, whose home overlooks the parking lot site. “We don’t think it’s a good deal at all.”

But most Morningside dwellers favor a parking lot for people who work in the community, city officials said, so the employees won’t compete with residents for spaces.

Also, CoreCare III, the Fullerton company that operates the retirement community, had requested that the city approve the lot, saying it is badly needed.

The council voted unanimously to allow the parking lot, citing approval for it by 80% of Morningside’s residents.

“It is quite compelling when 80% of the people support the parking lot,” Councilwoman Jan M. Flory said. “I think this probably will solve more problems than it creates.”
