SAN CLEMENTE : Wall of Recognition Gets First Set of Names
The first six names have been inscribed on the city’s new Wall of Recognition, created to recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving San Clemente.
The first people to be honored are: Richard Thomas Steed, the first San Clemente police officer killed in the line of duty; Max Berg, the city’s first Citizen of the Year; and Anthony R. (Tony) DiGiovanni, William A. (Mac) McGilligan, Arlie Waterman and Leo Fessenden.
The wall is an oak panel in the lobby of the Community Center, 100 N. Calle Seville. Names are inscribed on plaques mounted on the wall.
“Instead of dedicating basketball courts to these individuals, we wanted to honor them in a more useful and long-term way,” said Bruce Wegner, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
