A 24-year-old Simi Valley man charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of his ex-wife’s boyfriend pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Ventura County Municipal Court.

Judge John E. Dobroth set bail at $250,000 for Douglas Lemming, who is accused in the multiple stabbing of James Jones, also 24.

Jones was stabbed May 18 in front of the house where Lemming’s ex-wife, Mykel Lemming, lives in the 4000 block of Gertrude Street.

After the stabbing, Lemming fled to another house in the neighborhood, police said. He was arrested after the couple who lived in that home discovered Lemming standing in their dining room wearing blood-stained clothing, police said.

The man held Lemming at gunpoint while his wife called police. Dobroth ordered Lemming not to have any contact with his ex-wife or Jones if he makes bail.

Jones is out of the hospital and recovering from his injuries, prosecutors said.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 13.
