Obituaries : * Clifford Wayne Coon; Retired Engineer
Clifford Wayne Coon, a former engineer and longtime Ventura resident, died May 31 after a brief illness. He was 86.
Coon was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Aurora, Neb., and moved to Ventura in 1928. For 45 years, he worked for Southern Counties Gas Co. at the Ventura compressor plant. After his retirement in 1973, Coon focused on golf, woodworking, tending his rose garden and listening to old songs on the radio.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Genola; daughter Beverly Adkins; son-in-law Wayne; grandson Kevin Adkins; granddaughter Lisa Walker and her husband, Frank, all of Ventura; and sister-in-law Wilma Erfurth, and nephew Bill Erfurth, both of San Jose.
Private services today at Ivy Lawn Cemetery are being coordinated by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
