An unidentified rap singer and two other men are being sought by Los Angeles police in the shooting death of a man during a music studio holdup.
Keith Hobbs, 27, was killed Wednesday when he tried to intervene in an apparent robbery at the Fatt Ratt studio in the 4400 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard, Detective Hugo Baeza said.
Police identified two of the men as Tyrone Swain and Todd Stroud. The rapper was not named. All three are associates of the Crips gang, Baeza said.
Lt. Sergio Robleto said the men entered the music studio about 5:30 p.m. and talked to four people for about 20 minutes. “After the conversation, the suspects removed guns from a garment bag they brought into the studio,” he said.
They handcuffed three people, but a fourth jumped out of a window and ran for help next door, where Hobbs worked, Robleto said.
“Hobbs removed a revolver from his desk and [went] to the victims’ business [where he] confronted the suspects,” and was killed, Robleto said.
