LA HABRA : June 11 Selected as Day to Fight Spousal Abuse

Share

The City Council has designated June 11 as a day to focus on domestic violence in an effort to raise awareness of the problem and work toward eliminating it.

The declaration is part of a new domestic violence outreach program initiated by Councilwoman Dorothy May Rush, who made combatting spousal abuse a plank in her platform when she campaigned for a seat on the council.

Rush said this week that the city and the Community Resource Center are planning a facility that would house abused spouses who have no place to go and cannot afford to move.

To help raise money for the program, 36 local churches will ask members to donate $1 each on June 11.

The money, Rush said, will be used to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care, including hospital visits.

“We’ll do whatever it takes to make them safe,” she said.
