Interfaith Emergency Service will sponsor an event Sunday to raise money for programs that help the homeless and other needy people in the city.

Featuring folk singer John Hoover and an auction, the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Angelo’s and Vinci’s Cafe Restaurant, 550 N. Harbor Blvd. The cost will be $25 per person.

Event organizers said proceeds will be used by Interfaith for the housing, food and shelter it provides to homeless people.

The Interfaith organization was founded in 1975 to aid the hungry and destitute.

Twenty-five churches now belong to the service, which operates a distribution center providing food, lodging at motels, financial assistance with utility bills and rent payments, as well as shelter in the New Vista transitional living center.

The agency provided food to 33,000 people last year and helped numerous families find work and learn life skills to prosper, Interfaith officials said.
