Roundhouse Center
Your May 26 article describing Southland aquariums, existing and projected, overlooked the Roundhouse Marine Studies Center located on the Manhattan Beach pier.
Although pocket-size in comparison, but developed for what must seem like pocket money by the civic promoters mentioned in your article, the Roundhouse does prove your point that aquariums of whatever size are popular destinations. Several thousand visit our aquarium each weekend. More than 6,000 schoolchildren from throughout Los Angeles County receive classes in marine biology at the Roundhouse each year under a program offered in conjunction with the Los Angeles Office of Education. Our aquarium emphasizes Santa Monica Bay sea life, and was funded entirely from community donations.
