SAN CLEMENTE : Hearing to Address Street Repair Plan
The City Council has set a public meeting for Wednesday on a proposed street improvement program that could cost homeowners as much as $90 a year.
The city is proposing to create an assessment district to help pay for the program, which would spend $4.3 million a year for the road repairs. Of that amount, residents would chip in $1.5 million--between $18 and $90 a year per household, depending on whether the residence is on private or public streets.
Of the 120 miles of streets in the city, half are substandard, according to city staff reports. The proposal is the council’s third attempt in three years to come up with an equitable street repair plan, Councilman Steve Apodaca said.
At the same meeting, the council will hear comments from the public about a plan to develop 451 new homes in the city within the next year. The housing proposal includes requests to build 245 homes in Forster Ranch, 188 in Rancho San Clemente and 18 at Marblehead Inland.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, 100 Avenida Presidio.
