HUNTINGTON BEACH : Ocean Swim Meet Set

Ocean swimmers from across Southern California will compete June 24 in the 45th annual rough-water swim meet at the city pier.

Sponsored by the city’s Community Services Department, the event will be among the first ocean swims of the season.

More than 100 contestants participated in the Huntington Beach meet last year.

Races will be for men and women in age categories from 12 years to 50 and up.

The first race will begin at 9 a.m. A race for those 12 to 15 years old will start about 9:45.

Trophies will go to first-, second- and third-place finishers in each division.

The Gene Belshe Memorial Trophy will go to the winning team, and a trophy will be given to the highest-finishing Huntington Beach boy and girl.

Late registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. the day of the race on the beach next to the pier.
