ABUNDANT APATHY: Citywide voter turnout for Tuesday’s elections was nothing to crow about. Preliminary estimates indicate that only 178,942 residents of Los Angeles--or 13.6% of registered voters--bothered to go to the polls, above. . . . The Valley-related 5th District City Council race, which also covered West Los Angeles, garnered 29,578 votes. Only 15,637 voters turned out for the mid-Los Angeles 10th District race.

STAMP OF APPROVAL: Marilyn Monroe’s new 32-cent stamp is selling out at Valley post offices less than a week after it was unveiled. Nearly the entire stock of 50,000 stamps was cleaned out of the Northridge branch alone. “We had one guy who came in for 2,000 of them,” said postal worker Angie Braganza. . . . But Marilyn fans need not worry: More stamps have been ordered.

TUNNEL VISION: In exchange for the right to tunnel under Runyon Canyon Park, Los Angeles officials want the Metropolitan Transit Authority to acquire a whopping $4.5 million in privately owned open space for the city. . . . If the parties reach agreement, it would end a dispute between subway tunnelers and recreation advocates (B1).

FEELING BLUE: The Van Nuys Airport Expo has always been one of the nation’s top military aircraft displays. But visitors always have been grounded. Now you can at least get that flying feeling. . . . The July 15-16 show will feature $5 rides in a machine simulating the cockpit of a Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet. Weak stomachs are welcome too. . . . Said airport spokeswoman Stacey Geere: “It simulates everything but the motion sickness.”

GUN TROUBLE: A Panorama City woman whose 9-year-old daughter fired a gun on a school playground has been charged with allowing the girl to get the weapon. It’s the first local case of its kind and could send the woman to jail for a year (B1).
