Warren G is the latest rapper to get into the fashion business, with his G Funk Clothing line of sportswear due in department stores in the fall. The line is designed by Sherilyn Kleinbriel, who previously worked for Hugo Boss and Cross Colors. G is also at work on a new album, due before Christmas, as well as overseeing albums by the Twinz and Dove Shack for his new G Funk Records. . . .

Echoing Willy Wonka, 150 “special” copies of Elvis Costello’s new “Kojak Variety” album featuring two unlisted bonus tracks are being distributed randomly to U.S. record stores. Lucky recipients don’t get a trip to a chocolate factory, though. . . .

The sound track album for “White Man’s Burden,” the upcoming John Travolta feature, is shaping up as a jam-band/frat-rock collection, with new tracks by Hootie & the Blowfish, the Dave Matthews Band and Blues Traveler. Also lined up for the set, due Aug. 15, are Cracker, Bush, the Meat Puppets and Me’Shell NdegeOcello. . . .

A box set covering Genesis’ entire history--from the early Peter Gabriel years through the more recent mainstream success with the band fronted by Phil Collins--is due Nov. 7. . . . Manchester group Charlatans U.K. is back Aug. 15 with a new album, featuring several bonus dance remix tracks. . . .

In Pop Eye’s June 4 report on Rolling Stone staff changes, David Wild was inadvertently omitted from the list of recent music editors. Wild, currently a senior writer for the magazine, served as music editor from 1987-90. Also, Karen Johnston’s title is deputy music editor.
