MEANS TEST

Once again, Calendar has given a forum to another ethnic malcontent whose irresponsible, inaccurate revisionist attacks on the cultural giant of Western civilization exist only in his envious imagination (“The Angriest Actor,” by Elaine Dutka, June 11).

Although Russell Means is uncompromising in his condemnation of stereotypical portrayals of American Indians, he is equally intolerant of “ ‘scholastic, linear-thinking nit-pickers’ fixated on the movie’s historical inaccuracies” by claiming that they are missing the point.

What is the basis for his outrageous assertion that “ ‘Pocahontas’ is the first time Eurocentric male society has admitted its historical deceit”? It is also condescending of you not to challenge his claim that “the British came over here to kill Indians and rape and pillage the land.”

Would you give an equal forum to a “Eurocentric” male to disparage Indian peoples and their cultures? I think not.
