From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ticketmaster, the Los Angeles company that dominates the live-entertainment ticketing business nationwide, is moving onto the Internet.

The company’s new site on the World Wide Web portion of the global computer network provides concert information, entertainment news, sports and other information. Ticketmaster, majority-owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, will not sell tickets through the site for at least a year because of security concerns.

The move is part of the privately held company’s strategy to change its image from ticket vendor to entertainment company.

The free service, at https://www.ticketmaster.com, posts a daily roundup of 10,000 events for which the company is selling tickets. It also includes staff-written news reports and information about the entertainment industry from magazines such as Variety.

In addition, the service offers a Q&A; and feedback area, where fans can read the company’s explanation of its controversial service fees and its high-profile feud with Pearl Jam and voice their opinions on those issues.
