After World War II, Santa Ana leaders were not sure how to proceed with development of vast acres of farmland in the southern part of the city.
A group of business leaders favored creating an industrial zone, which they said would provide more jobs to residents and improve the city’s tax base.
The group asked city officials to zone thousands of acres for light industrial use. The city did so in the hope of attracting developers who would build modern business parks, not smokestack factories.
By 1969, the city was home to 10 business parks, most of them in the southeast corner.

For those who love the outdoors, Newport Beach’s Mariners Branch Library has a summer idea.
A slide show and lecture titled “The Wonders of Our Newest National Park--Joshua Tree,” will offer some tips for enjoying this landmark.
Laureen Lentz, a ranger at Joshua Tree, will present the show at 7 p.m. in the Vincent Jorgensen Community Center next to the library.
