SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Bank Robber Nets $250; No One Hurt
A robber made off with about $250 during a late-morning holdup Tuesday at the Great Western bank branch downtown, authorities said.
No one was hurt in the 11:49 a.m. robbery of the bank at Del Obispo Street and Camino Capistrano, Sheriff’s Lt. Rex Hatch said, and the bandit was not apprehended.
The robber asked a teller to change five $20 bills for a $100 bill, then handed over a note demanding money and saying that he had a gun, Hatch said.
The man “simulated having a gun in his waistband,” but none was seen by witnesses, Hatch said.
Police late Tuesday were seeking the robber, whom witnesses described as a Latino in his late 20s, with long black hair. His height was estimated at 5 feet, 10 inches and his weight between 145 and 155 pounds.
