Obituaries : * Mike Gillette, 43; County Sheriff’s Deputy
Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Gillette died Wednesday of a heart attack suffered while jogging. He was 43.
Gillette was jogging about 4:30 p.m. along Olsen Road when he collapsed. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Gillette was a 10-year veteran of the department, working most recently as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer. Deputies remembered Gillette as a friendly man who loved working with children. He had even created his own hand-puppet show dealing with safety issues.
“The kids would have their mouths open watching this performance, they just loved it,” Lt. Mike Brown said.
Gillette is survived by his wife, Anna Marie, sons James and Daniel and daughter, Jacqueline, all of Oxnard. The family had not made funeral arrangements by late Thursday.
