U OUGHTA BE IN PICTURES: U2’s been bitten by the movie bug. Not only does it have the hit song from the “Batman Forever” soundtrack and Bono’s “Million Dollar Hotel” script in the hands of German director Wim Wenders, but the band is now at work on a whole album of music intended for use in films.

Nothing’s official yet, but tentative plans call for portions of the new music--being produced by longtime U2 collaborator Brian Eno--in “Heat,” the upcoming gangster movie starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, a new film by avant-garde director Peter Greenaway and a proposed sequel to the sci-fi classic “Blade Runner.”

Simultaneously, the group is at work on another album with Eno--this one expected to be a return to more conventional rock after the progressive electro-experiments of “Achtung, Baby” and “Zooropa.”

“I think it’s time for U2 to make a rock ‘n’ roll album,” said Bono in a recent interview with an Irish magazine. “A lot of people are ready for our version of rock, ‘cause they’re tired of the ‘70s rehash which has been doing the rounds in plaid shirts and [shorts].”
