American Ticketing Systems Inc. in Irvine has signed an agreement with Wherehouse Entertainment Inc. to place automatic ticketing kiosks in 136 Wherehouse record stores in Southern California by the end of the year.

The machines will enable users to buy tickets for concerts and sports events as if they were using an automated teller machine. Users will be able to choose their seats from a map of available seating, and purchase their tickets using a credit card.

Initially, American Ticketing, which does business as Ameritix, will supply machines for 25 stores.

The agreement with Wherehouse, based in Torrance, is the first for the smaller company. Founded by several partners in 1994, Ameritix coordinates the design of kiosks and related software for installation in retail stores.

The value of the agreement depends on how frequently Wherehouse customers use the machines, said Donald Golan, president of Ameritix. Revenue for Ameritix will be generated through service fees and a percentage of merchandising and advertising revenue, Golan said.
