A 24-year-old man was shot to death and a 14-year-old boy wounded in a drive-by shooting, police said Monday.

Detective Marshall White said Alberto Aceves and the unidentified teen-ager were standing at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Langdon Avenue with a group of friends about 7 p.m. Sunday when a white car pulled up to the stop sign. After words were exchanged, witnesses said someone in the car began firing at the group of five to seven people, striking the two North Hills residents and scattering the crowd.

Witnesses rushed Aceves and his friend to Holy Cross Medical Center where the teen-ager, shot once in the buttocks, was treated and released. Aceves died early Monday morning from a bullet to the chest.

White said piecing together the details of the shooting will be especially difficult because some witnesses may not cooperate.

The detective said it was unclear if the shooting was gang related.
