A man was shot and killed in a motel room Friday night and a woman was arrested in connection with the slaying as she attempted to drive away, police said.

Nancy Gilmore, 30, of Anaheim was booked at the Anaheim City Jail on suspicion of murder. Her bail was set at $250,000. Police were withholding the name of the victim pending notification of relatives.

Police received a call at 11 p.m. Friday reporting a shooting at the El Dorado Inn at 3360 W. Lincoln Ave., said Anaheim Police Sgt. Steve Rodig. On arrival, they found the victim in one of the motel rooms, dead of gunshot wounds to the chest.

Officers found a gun in Gilmore’s car, Rodig said. The motive for the shooting is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Deborah Campbell, 35, who is staying in a nearby motel room, said she and her husband heard a female voice crying ‘Help!” before gunshots sounded.

Gilmore and her companion had been at the motel for a week, Campbell said. “Like everyone around here, they kept pretty much to themselves,” she said.

El Dorado is a three-story stucco complex whose rooms surround a courtyard with a swimming pool and a fountain. Rooms are rented on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The motel had experienced drug and crime problems in the past, but new management has upgraded the complex with landscaping and providing a nightly security guard, guests said.
