NEWBURY PARK : Contractor Still Waits on Caltrans Payment

Share

A Newbury Park contractor owed more than $50,000 for emergency work done during the January floods is appealing to Gov. Pete Wilson to speed up payments being processed by Caltrans.

Grace V. Mosler, who owns Mosler & Co. with her husband, Larry, is among a dozen or more land-clearing companies owed hundreds of thousands of dollars by the state.

“All we want to do is get paid in a timely manner,” Mosler wrote to the governor. “What must we do to get this to happen?”

Mosler was asked in early January to clear a series of roads, highways and flood channels that were blocked by tons of rocks and debris that slid during fierce winter storms.

Since then, she has called Caltrans every week, seeking updates on when they might receive their fee.

State transportation officials said they are working as fast as they can to process thousands of emergency contracts.

Like other contractors, Mosler has been forced to borrow money to pay her bills during the wait.

“That’s ridiculous,” said a Wilson spokesman, who added that the office would work to speed up the payments.
