Brush Fires Burn 700 Acres in Desert
Los Angeles County firefighters put out two brush fires that raged through 700 acres of the high desert Sunday.
The first fire started about 12:45 p.m. near West Avenue D and 60th Street West, northwest of Lancaster, Fire Department Capt. Mike Klose said. It was put out two hours later, he said.
No homes were threatened in the fire, which consumed 200 acres of brush, Klose said. There were no reports of injuries or damage. The cause of the fire was not known, authorities said.
The second fire was reported at 4:22 p.m. at 35th Street East and East Avenue K-8, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Betty Parker.
Seventy-five firefighters responded. The blaze was brought under control within three hours. More than 500 acres of brush were blackened, but no structures were threatened, Parker said. The cause was under investigation Sunday night.
