LA PALMA : County Library Will Maintain 4-Day Week

Share

In a move to keep the county-run branch library here open four days a week, the City Council has approved an additional $12,000 for the 1995-96 library fund.

The council, in approving the city budget last month, approved $50,000 for the library fund. The council on Wednesday increased that amount to $62,000 after learning that more money was needed.

City Clerk Brigitte Charles said the county had once targeted the La Palma branch library to be closed altogether. She said the county Board of Supervisors at the last minute voted to allow the branch to stay open two days a week.

An expenditure of $62,000 a year will enable the city to keep the library open two additional days, she said, or four days a week.

The City Council praised the work of its Citizens’ Library Task Force, which lobbied the Board of Supervisors to keep the branch library.

“I’ve been told that our task force had a big impact,” Mayor Wally D. Linn said.
