Sporting Proposal Would Benefit All

* After the recent problems in Orange County, it is nice to have some news that holds some opportunity. The recent defection of the Rams, the exit of the Raiders, and the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station closure provides the county with a true opportunity. Build a stadium at the El Toro Marine base and offer a team a long-term contract that in the first 15 years generates the income necessary to pay off the amount of the bankruptcy settlement.
Think of all the benefits:
* A profitable use, filling a big void, at an opportune time.
* Employment opportunities will be generated due to construction and service demands.
* The residents of Irvine and Lake Forest will not be inflicted with the noise pollution from an unneeded airport.
* The rest of the parcel can be developed as a light manufacturing center in the high-end technological field, replacing lost jobs from the base closure.
So many benefits, at a critical time, for all of the county.
