Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a 25-year-old man late Sunday night after the man apparently tried to grab an officer’s gun, said Deputy Gabe Ramirez.

The shooting occurred after two deputies stopped to question three men standing near a parked car in the unincorporated area of East Rancho Dominguez about 11:35 p.m., Ramirez said. One man, who appeared to be holding a gun, grabbed a bag from the car and ran, Ramirez said.

Deputies found him hiding behind a nearby house and the man grabbed for a deputy’s gun, Ramirez said. Both officers fired once and the man was fatally wounded, Ramirez said. The 25-year-old man was not identified pending notification of next of kin. Officers later found a revolver-type pellet gun in bag nearby, but the man was unarmed, Ramirez said.
