A Santa Paula native and retired investigator will be installed today as a trustee on the board of the Santa Paula Union High School District.

Robert Salas, 57, was selected by the district’s board of trustees to fill the vacant seat left by Roylene Cunningham, who died June 23.

Salas, one of two candidates to apply for the position, will be installed during tonight’s board meeting and serve as a trustee until November, 1996.

The board selected Salas during a special meeting on Saturday after interviewing the two applicants. The other candidate was Elizabeth Scott, who works for the city of Santa Paula in the finance department.

A graduate of Santa Paula Union High School, Salas began his law-enforcement career as an officer for the Oxnard Police Department. While working in Oxnard, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in social studies at La Verne University.

In 1975 he went to work as an investigator for the Ventura County district attorney’s office. He retired from that job in 1994.
