Valleywide : Open Enrollment for Year-Round Students

Share

Students on year-round school schedules wishing to attend a Los Angeles Unified School District campus other than the one nearest their home have until Friday to apply for a transfer through open enrollment.

Open enrollment, which began in California during the 1994-95 school year, allows students to apply to attend any school in a district.

Since 1994, state law has allowed students and parents to choose a preferred campus. Districts are not required to provide busing or other transportation.

If more students want to enroll at a campus than it can accommodate, a lottery is usually held among students attempting to transfer there.

The open enrollment deadline has passed for students on traditional calendars and in the LEARN program, although some additional transfers will be accepted on a space available basis through Sept. 22.
