SANTA ANA : Health Fair Reaches Out to Latinas

Share

The Mexican-American Arts Council will sponsor a health fair Saturday to provide information on a wide range of topics from breast cancer to AIDS.

The fair will be at the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, 2002 N. Main St.

It will include bilingual information on leukemia, diabetes and heart disease.

Admission is free.

Teresa Maldonado-Parker, president of the Arts Council, said the fair will focus on Latino women because they might not receive health information from such common sources as English-language newspapers.

“We want to reach the grass-roots people,” she said.

Entertainment will include appearances by Aztec dancers, actor Anthony Pena of daytime TV’s “The Young and the Restless,” and singers Liz Navar and Saul Reynoso. The celebrities will be available for photos.

Tacos, nachos and soft drinks will be for sale, Maldonado-Parker said.

Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Arts Council, which is affiliated with the museum and sponsors educational outreach programs.

The fair hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum’s courtyard and conference center.
