ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Old School

Share

In 1878, an Anaheim school principal proposed what would be the state’s first school construction bond. His name: James M. Guinn.

Guinn’s persistence and lobbying in the Legislature led to the approval of a $10,000 bond.

The money built a two-story schoolhouse to handle rapid student enrollment growth, which at that time had gone over 100.
