Lesbians: Reasons Why Business Failed

Share

An article on lesbians (Westside, July 6) that doesn’t stoop to preconceived notions and titillation is a welcomed relief. I take exception, however, to the suggestion based on the closing of Little Frida’s, a lesbian-owned coffeehouse, that lesbians are not capable of supporting lesbian-owned businesses. On the contrary, like anyone else with money to spend, lesbians support businesses that offer quality, consistency and value. When the new owner of Little Frida’s moved the coffeehouse to its last location, she chose to hire young and relatively inexperienced help with little customer service skills. Additionally, she skewed the coffeehouse toward a young clientele. These poor management decisions gradually turned off the 30-plus crowd with the spending power. Lesbians spend money every day, but they are more discriminating about it than what you insinuated through your interview with the failed owner of Little Frida’s. LUCIA M. CONFORTI Los Angeles
