Central Los Angeles : Group Seeks to Boost Business in Watts
- Share via
A new economic development corporation will look for ways to attract and retain businesses in Watts and around the Los Angeles Harbor.
Formed by City Councilman Rudy Svorininch Jr., the corporation is assembling a board of directors and community advisory panels in each community in Los Angeles’ 15th City Council District.
Plans call for the group to seek funding from grants to launch marketing campaigns to attract businesses to the area and provide consultants to help businesses cut costs.
“It’s a real proactive stance on economic development,” said Barry Glickman, Svorinich’s chief of staff.
The idea for the corporation arose during a 15th District economic summit held in 1993 to brainstorm ways to improve the business climate in Watts, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, Wilmington and San Pedro.
