EAST LOS ANGELES : Training Set for Rape Hot Line Volunteers

Training will be offered for people interested in becoming volunteers for the East L.A. Sexual Assault Program’s 24-hour hot line.
Bilingual volunteers are preferred because 90% of telephone calls to the program are in Spanish. Trainees will be taught counseling techniques and intervention and advocacy skills to handle rape crisis calls. The 45 hours of classes are scheduled Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m.
Classes begin Aug. 7 at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, 460 E. Whittier Blvd. AVANCE Human Services, which offers the training, is asking for a $25 donation to help with supplies.
