BELL GARDENS : City Awards College Loans to 29 Students
The Bell Gardens Academic Pursuit Program has awarded $42,000 in loans to 29 students who have been accepted at colleges or universities.
Under the two-year-old city program, recipients of the no-interest loans commit to a minimum of 10 hours of community service in lieu of repayment. Students received loans from $500 to $5,000 from a $3-million city fund created especially for this program.
