SANTA PAULA : Drug Bust Money to Aid Bike Patrol
- Share via
About $4,000 seized during a drug bust three years ago will be used to improve the Santa Paula Police Department’s bicycle patrol program.
The Santa Paula City Council has authorized the Police Department to use the unclaimed $3,700.
The bicycle program began about a month ago when four police officers attended, on their own time, a three-day bicycle training seminar offered by the Santa Monica Police Department.
After the training, the officers purchased four bicycles and began the program during the Fourth of July weekend. Police Chief Walter Adair said the funds will be used to reimburse the officers for the money they spent on the bicycles, which now belong to the Police Department.
The public has also donated $1,595 to the program. The donated funds will be used over the next two years to maintain the program, Adair said.
