Five federally assisted housing projects in the West Valley and Thousand Oaks that were damaged in the Northridge earthquake got a helping hand Friday with an award of nearly $1 million in repair loans, Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson (D-Woodland Hills) announced.
The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Earthquake Loan Program (HELP), a program created to assist privately owned housing projects that receive federal assistance for low-income, elderly and disabled tenants.
Receiving loans were Kittridge Gardens in Reseda ($599,871); Independence Park Apartments in Canoga Park ($170,094); Parthenia Townhouses in Canoga Park ($36,450); Los Arboles Apartments in Thousand Oaks ($94,359); and Mountclef Apartments in Thousand Oaks ($58,200).
“They are basically monies to help repair the building and bring it to pre-earthquake conditions,” said Virginia Hatfield, a field representative in Beilenson’s Woodland Hills office.
