Woman Who Abandoned Baby Charged With Child Abuse
A woman who abandoned her newborn boy after giving birth in a Boyle Heights garage was charged Thursday with one felony count of child abuse.
Luminosa Morales Gomez, 26, faces a maximum six years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said. She was being held on $50,000 bail and was scheduled for arraignment today in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
Gomez turned herself in Wednesday at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division station, the day after she left the baby boy on a couch in the garage.
The baby was listed in good condition after being taken to a local hospital.
Gomez told authorities that she feared losing her job if she had another child.
