Police were searching Monday for a gunman who shot and killed a 27-year-old Los Angeles man in the parking lot of a Mar Vista shopping center Sunday evening after a dispute over the victim’s girlfriend.

Efren Rincon died outside a liquor store across the street from the police station at Centinela Avenue and Culver Boulevard, said Detective Chuck Worthen of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division.

Rincon and his girlfriend, who was not identified by police, were approached by the gunman about 8:30 p.m. The suspect reportedly made a comment about Rincon’s girlfriend and a dispute ensued. The suspect drew a gun and fired several rounds, police said.
