Six elephant seals and one California sea lion were released back into the ocean Wednesday by workers at the Marine Mammal Care Center at Ft. MacArthur in San Pedro.
The animals had been found either sick or injured. They were released a few miles west of Catalina.
“They slid down the ramp, into the ocean and off they went,” said Jack Cameron, a volunteer. “We saw one of them at a distance kind of look back at us, but once they get out there, they’re gone.”
