The 14 dogs and cats were a little edgy but no worse for the wear and tear after someone tossed a Molotov cocktail through the window of a South Gate animal hospital. The device set a small fire that burned some records and office furniture, but no animals were injured.

About two dozen firefighters responded and quickly put out the blaze at the Hollydale Veterinary Hospital about 11 p.m. Wednesday, a county Fire Department spokesman said.

Police on Thursday were investigating the bombing and no one was in custody.

As for the animals, they got on with their lives.

“They were a little spooked but nothing serious,” said hospital owner Evelyn Cornelia.
