BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Rangers’ Gonzalez Goes on Disabled List
Two-time American League home run champion Juan Gonzalez, plagued because of soreness in his neck and left shoulder, was put on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 27 by the Texas Rangers. To replace Gonzalez on the roster, the Rangers are activating right-hander Danny Darwin, who will start Saturday against the Angels at Anaheim.

The Oakland Athletics put Danny Tartabull on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained muscle in his left rib cage. . . . New York Met pitcher Pete Harnisch has torn cartilage in his right shoulder and will miss at least his next start.
