ANAHEIM : Council to Consider Water System Upgrade

Share

Aging fire hydrants and an undersized water main would be replaced, and fire safety would be improved, under a plan before the City Council on Tuesday.

The project would improve the water system in an area generally bounded by Katella Avenue on the south, Gilbert Street on the west, Crestwood Lane on the north and Jean Street on the east.

This low- to moderate-income neighborhood is in an unincorporated area of the county that receives water service from Anaheim. Its water system was built about 40 years ago. A federal grant received last summer would pay for the $285,000 project, which is expected to take six to nine months.

Another project coming before the council Tuesday involves repaving La Palma Avenue between Grove Street and Kraemer Boulevard.

The city awarded the $429,000 project to an Orange-based construction firm in June. Now the city is asking that the Orange County Transportation Authority allocate about $220,000 to help pay for the work. The money would come from Anaheim’s share of Measure M transportation funds.

The council meeting is to begin at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
