DIC Defends Its Quality, Management

On behalf of the 100-plus hard-working and talented people inside DIC Entertainment, we take issue with certain statements made in your article [“Deal Would Give Cartoon Unit to Disney,” Aug. 4].

DIC has been committed to the highest-quality programming since its inception. This year DIC won the Emmy for outstanding animated series on television (“Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?”) in a field of distinguished nominees, including Steven Spielberg’s “Animaniacs” and Disney’s “Aladdin.” In addition, DIC won the coveted Cable Ace Award for outstanding animated series on cable (“Madeline”).

In fact, DIC programs have been Emmy-nominated for either the outstanding series category or the outstanding special category for five of the last six years. DIC programs have been further distinguished with Humanitas Awards, Golden Reel Awards, Environmental Media Assn. awards, as well as numerous international distinctions.

Its programs enjoy unique international status with longstanding relationships with the premier broadcasters in the world, as well as nascent markets such as China and India. DIC clients and partners in the kid business range from Mattel and Hasbro to General Mills to McDonald’s and Burger King.

DIC Entertainment is a signatory to numerous collective-bargaining agreements and enjoys good labor relations. Its employees are proud of the recognition our shows have garnered.

DIC further enjoys numerous existing relationships with the Walt Disney Co. through home video, motion picture, cable and international distribution, and we look forward to making a continuing contribution to the merged company.
