Police arrested two men in one shooting and are seeking information in an earlier shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon, law enforcement officials said.

At 2:30 p.m., Oxnard police responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of West 7th Street.

They found the victim, Julio Garibay, with gunshot wounds in his back, officials said. Garibay was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Witnesses in the area gave police a description of a vehicle driven by possible suspects. Not long after, an officer saw a car that matched the description leaving the area.

Police stopped the car and arrested the suspects: Eduardo Gutierrez Tapia, 30, of Oxnard, and Antonio Carranza Maldonado, 24, of Oxnard.

In a separate incident about 2 p.m. in the 500 block of East Date Street in Oxnard, police had responded to a call of shots fired in the parking lot of the E-Z Motel and reports of a man shot. They were unable to find a victim, but cordoned off the area.

Police said the victim of that shooting, Edward Michael Cortez, had been transported by unknown individuals to St. John’s for gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

He was taken into surgery where his left kidney and part of his colon were removed, Oxnard police officials said. Cortez was listed in fair and stable condition, officials said.

There are no known suspects in this case. Investigations are continuing in both cases.
