Update : Follow-up on the news : HUNTINGTON BEACH : City OKs Adult Store’s Request to Expand
After months of waiting, Rosalie Taddeo will finally be able to expand her adult business, with its inventory of lingerie, videos, massage oils and novelty items.
In a 4-3 vote, the City Council on Monday gave Taddeo permission to increase the square footage of her Paradise Specialties shop by expanding to an adjacent storefront. The store, which opened in September, 1991, is in a shopping center at Gothard Street and Center Avenue.
The council’s action reversed a decision by the Planning Commission, which had denied Taddeo’s request because her business is near Golden West College.
Councilman Peter Green, who voted against the expansion, argued that an estimated 12,000 minors attend special programs and activities at the college.
Councilwoman Shirley S. Dettloff spoke for the expansion, however, saying the business has drawn no complaints from neighbors.
