Southeast : BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
City employees in cash-strapped Hawaiian Gardens were told this week that they would not receive their Friday paychecks, but city officials have now promised to pay them Monday. A last-ditch effort Thursday to obtain funds owed by the county yielded enough to cover this pay period, but officials are still not sure how they will cover payroll two weeks from now. The city is $1.5 million in debt.
