FULLERTON : College District Appoints Trustee

Share

Nancy M. Rice, Mt. San Antonio College’s director of fiscal services, has been appointed to complete the term of Barbara G. Hammerman on the North Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees.

Hammerman resigned from her post, saying she will be moving out of state to devote more time to a national endowment project for the Council of Jewish Federations.

Rice was chosen after a public interview of nine candidates.

She worked for the North County district for 20 years before taking the job at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Rice was hired by the district 23 years ago as a clerk typist. She was promoted several times and served as the district’s assistant chancellor of finance.

Rice, a Yorba Linda resident, will serve as a trustee until Hammerman’s term expires in November, 1996.

“There are few others who could hit the ground running and come to you at this time with my knowledge of not only the district and shared governance but of community colleges in general,” she said during her interview. “I promise to devote my experience, energy and commitment to being an effective, dedicated and caring board member.”

Board President Nilane A. Lee said one reason she voted to appoint Rice to Hammerman’s seat was because of “her expertize in community college budgeting. . . . I’ve known her since she was an employee of the district and she has supreme integrity.”
