Readers Seem Positive That Coverage of USC Will Be Overly Negative

Share

As a daily reader of the L.A. Times for the past 10 years, I was not surprised this morning [Aug. 4, regarding Keyshawn Johnson] to find another negative article about USC football. It seems that the adversarial relationship The Times has with USC has gone too far and deserves its own investigation. For the time your reporters spend searching for the ultimate scandal that would give SC the death penalty, they could have solved Watergate, Iran-Contra and Whitewater.

Your Morning Briefing people are having open season on USC. Cheap shots galore! What’s with these sophomoric bleatings? USC is without peer as the source of local community leaders in the professional, business and athletic areas.

Over 100 years of contribution by a privately funded institution deserves better. Have your “children” grow up.

It is unbelievable that Keyshawn Johnson is being investigated for allegedly accepting a loan. First it was Delon Washington and Kenny Cooper, then Ken Haslip, and now Johnson who is accused of violating NCAA regulations. Give me a break. They would investigate a USC football player if he sneezed.

Keyshawn Johnson, found academically unacceptable by that prestigious University of Miami football program, had to settle for Southern Cal and a $1,200 loan from a sports agent. Just the latest in a long line of questionable characters to play for Honest John Robinson.

Maybe the coach should look into membership in the SEC, since he seems determined to make Southern Cal the “Alabama of the West.”

University of Southern California. When I was at UCLA we thought that USC stood for the University of Second Choice.
